  Bir Hospital is the oldest hospital of Nepal. This hospital was established in 1947 BS, under the name of contemporary Prime Minister Bir Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana. Initially it was a seven bed hospital with 5 staffs. Today it has a proud history of 125 years and the first hospital of Nepal wherethe practice of modern medicinecommenced.Till eighties services including gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry were available in this very hospital. With the evolvement of super specialtyand increasing workload in the limited premises these services were shifted to Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah Maternity hospital Thapathali, Kanti Bal hospital Maharajgunja and Patan mental hospital Lalitpur respectively. This is a historical hospital as every modern medical service in the country has roots in this hospital. This is the first hospital where neurosurgery was started in the times when CTscan was not around. In the field of modern cardiology Nepal’s first case of angiography, cathlab and valve replacement were all done at Bir Hospital.

  One of the oldest hospital of Nepal. It has many medical services for people but the services are not so standard. It seems they need to improve a lot and improving too. Most of the time the hospital is full of patients. There are not enough doctors and staffs or something management problem, patients have to wait many hours even days to take care of their problem. Wish it will be not only oldest but also best hospital of the nation one day.

  The last time I was here.. I really had a bad experience.. Me n my mom had to wait really long for the doc and when our turn finally came.. The doc had cancelled all the appointment for the day 😒 so we had to return back home So even this time I was very reluctant about my visit but gave it one more try and it was very surprising.. This time the Internal control system of the hospital has improved a lot.. And I had my appointment and the doctors were on time.. No delay.. No waiting.. Its nice to see government hopsital are improving and providing good services to their customers 😀😊

  Its oldest Hospital and Largest patient Seat of Nepal. The Hospital functionality is going to improvement day by day though it was poor service. But from few month the Administration is improve its quality of service up to some extent. I wish the all administration , doctors and other staff do own job better as far as possible. Thank you.
