  🎁 THE STORY OF SORHAKUTTE 🎁 The original name of this rest stop is `Mandal Paati´ which was named Sorrhakhutte. Sorha-khutte means 16 legged in Nepali. There was recently a resting inn or Paati with 16 wooden pillers in the spot where many travellers, walkers and tired farmers after day-long work used to rest from the olden times. The one-storeyed Sorhakhutte paati was made by Kapardaar Bhotu Pandey in B.S. 1864 according to the stone inscription found in Naya Bazaar market, said by historians. Bhotu Pandey was a powerful courtisan at the time, and was once captured by Tibetan army in Nepal-Tibet war, and later on released. He had made many memorable monuments as his glory or kirti like temples, ponds, stone spouts, religious houses in the valley at the places like Balaju park, pulchowk, Bhaktapur etc. He also had established the new market place as Naya Bazaar in Paknajol. The present Sorhakhutte Chowk was then an entrance path to this city where there was a tax collecting office for a long period. This spot was a part of dense forest in the valley at that time. There were pine trees (sallaghari with salla) from here upto Lazimpat; and open grounds in every middle parts. As a jungle place, the spot had an importance of warfare too of Kantipur. The Sorhakhutte Paati or the rest house at the time had also a cultural value that the people used to come there from all around. That means all the total 4+4 directions. Denoting each 2 legs of those directions, the Sorhakhutte was named as 16 legged, or to say: 8×2=16. Sixteen legged rest stop houses or paatis were also made in the entrance path of other places also; such as Chapagaun, Thankot, Panauti etc. This 2 & a half century old historic paati has been demolished by using dozer and made vanished in the name of road construction; which needs to be rebuild at the same place.
